Privacy Policy
Effective October 21, 2026 · Updated October 26, 2026 (camera and Photos)
This Privacy Policy describes how mntlApps LLC ("we", "us"), a limited liability company registered in Georgia, handles information when you use the Billow iPhone app, its widgets and controls, and this website (together, the "Services"). Together with the Billow Terms of Use, it governs our relationship with you.
The short version
- Your breath is never recorded. Billow uses the microphone only while you are logging a puff, with Billow open on screen. The sound is analysed on your iPhone as it happens and then discarded. It is never saved, and never sent to us or anyone else.
- What you log stays on your iPhone. Your puffs, plan, habit details and settings are stored in the app on your device. There is no Billow account and no Billow server, so we never receive them.
- No tracking. No analytics, no advertising, no data brokers, and no tracking across other apps or websites.
- Purchases go through Apple. If you buy Billow Plus, Apple handles the payment and RevenueCat confirms which purchases are active, using an anonymous ID. Neither receives anything you log.
- You are in control. Settings → Delete all data erases everything Billow keeps, immediately.
1. Who we are
The Services are operated by mntlApps LLC, 6 Tamarashvili Street 2 177, Tbilisi 0179, Georgia. For anything to do with your privacy, write to contact@mntlapps.com.
2. Age
Billow is intended for adults, and carries an adult age rating on the App Store because it concerns nicotine use. We do not knowingly collect information from children, and because Billow has no account and keeps what you log on your device, there is no profile of you on our side to collect.
3. Information on your iPhone
Billow works without a server. Everything below stays in the app's storage on your iPhone and is never sent to us.
| What | Examples | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Your log | The time of each puff, and whether you logged it by breath, by tap or from a widget | Today's count, your history, patterns and progress |
| Your habit and plan | Puffs a day, pod price and size, nicotine strength, your target and timeframe | Your daily limit, the weekly taper, money and nicotine estimates |
| Check-ins and triggers | Your morning commitment, your evening check-in answers, and what you said brought a puff on | Today's commitment, what you planned to try, and the "Why you vape" view in Patterns |
| Learn | Which short reads you've finished | Marking them read |
| Breath calibration | Three numbers: your room's background level, how loud your blow is, and how breath-like it sounds | Recognising your blow and not other sounds |
| Settings | Sound mode, the time your day starts, reminders on or off. The language comes from your iPhone's settings | Making the app work the way you set it |
Billow's widgets read today's count, limit and recent days from a small shared store on your iPhone, and a +1 tapped on a widget waits there until the app adds it to your log. That store never leaves your device either.
Your iPhone's own backups (iCloud or a computer) may include Billow's data, as they include most apps' data. Those backups are controlled by you and Apple, not by us.
4. The microphone
Billow asks for microphone access so you can log a puff by breathing out toward your phone. When you open the blow screen, Billow listens for as long as that screen is open, so you can log several puffs in a row, and stops when you tap Done or Cancel, after a quiet spell (ten seconds before your first puff, a minute after your last), or when you leave the app. While it listens, each fraction of a second of sound is reduced in memory to two measures, how loud it is and how much of it is low, rumbly breath noise, and the sound itself is discarded. No audio is recorded, written to storage or transmitted, and Billow never listens in the background. You can turn microphone access off at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and log by tapping instead.
The camera and Photos
Billow asks for camera access only when you open the mirror, a front-camera view for looking at yourself while a craving passes. Billow keeps no photos of its own. If you take one, Billow composes it with its name and your progress for the day (time without a puff, days under your limit, money kept today). When you choose Share, Billow writes that single image to temporary storage only to hand it to the iOS share sheet, and deletes it straight after; where it goes from there is up to you and the app you share it with. When you choose Save to Photos, Billow adds that image to your photo library. For that it asks only for permission to add photos, which does not let it see, read or change any photo already in your library. You can turn camera or Photos access off at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera or Photos.
5. Information that leaves your iPhone
Only purchases, and only if you make one.
| Who | Role | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Apple | App distribution and payment | Your purchase of Billow Plus, under Apple's own terms and privacy policy. We never see your payment details. |
| RevenueCat, Inc. (USA) | Confirms which purchases are active | An anonymous ID generated on your iPhone, your Billow Plus purchase and renewal history, and basic technical details its software reports (such as app version, iOS version, country and IP address). No name, no email, nothing you log. |
| Cloudflare, Inc. (USA) | Hosts this website | The technical details any website receives when you visit (IP address, browser, the page requested), kept briefly for security and reliability. |
We do not sell personal information, share it for advertising, or use it to build profiles. Billow contains no analytics, crash-reporting or advertising software. If you have chosen to share crash reports with developers through Apple, Apple may pass us anonymous crash reports.
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write, and use it only to reply.
6. Notifications
Billow's reminders (a morning plan and a heads-up near your limit) are scheduled on your iPhone by the app itself. No notification server is involved and nothing about them is sent to us.
7. Legal bases
We are subject to Georgia's Law on Personal Data Protection and, where we offer the Services to people in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the GDPR and UK GDPR. The little we process is processed to provide what you asked for (performance of a contract: confirming your purchase, answering your email) or for our legitimate interest in keeping the website secure.
8. International transfers
What you log is not transferred anywhere: it stays on your iPhone. Purchase records are processed by Apple and RevenueCat, and website requests by Cloudflare, which may happen in the United States or other countries whose privacy laws differ from yours. Where required, transfers rely on safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
9. Keeping and deleting
- Your log, plan and settings: on your iPhone for as long as you keep them. Settings → Delete all data erases them immediately and returns Billow to its first-run state; deleting the app also removes them. This cannot be undone, and there is no copy on our side to restore.
- Microphone audio: never kept.
- Mirror photos: never kept by Billow. A photo you share or save to Photos is yours, in the app you sent it to or in your photo library.
- Purchase records: kept by Apple and RevenueCat for as long as tax, accounting and their own policies require.
- Emails to us: up to two years.
10. Security
Because your log never leaves your iPhone, it is protected by your device's own security, including its passcode and encryption. Purchase information travels over encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting information we hold, we will notify you and regulators as the law requires. To report a vulnerability, write to contact@mntlapps.com.
11. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or port your personal information, to object to or restrict processing, and to complain to a data-protection authority (in Georgia, the Personal Data Protection Service). Most of what Billow handles is on your iPhone, where you can see and delete it yourself. For anything we or RevenueCat might hold, email us and we will help. California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as the CCPA/CPRA defines it.
12. Cookies and tracking
This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics or third-party scripts; its fonts and images are served from the site itself. The app does not track you and does not ask for permission to track (App Tracking Transparency), because it never does.
13. Changes
If Billow changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update it here with a new effective date, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
